About Bangla Unicode Converter

Bangla Unicode Converter is a free tool that converts Bangla text between Bijoy (SutonnyMJ / ANSI) and Unicode — accurately, instantly, and privately in your browser.

Our mission

Millions of Bangla documents still live in the legacy Bijoy/SutonnyMJ format, which only displays correctly with a specific font installed. Our goal is simple: make it effortless for everyone — publishers, students, web editors, and offices — to move that text to modern Unicode that works everywhere, at no cost and with no software to install.

How our conversion accuracy works

Accurate Bangla conversion is harder than swapping characters one-for-one. The genuinely difficult parts are conjuncts (যুক্তাক্ষর), reph, and vowel-sign (কার) reordering — Bijoy stores some vowel signs before a consonant, while Unicode stores them after. Our converter:

  • Uses a comprehensive SutonnyMJ ⇄ Unicode character map covering vowels, consonants, all kars, and ~120 conjuncts.
  • Applies a reordering pipeline that rebuilds conjuncts, fixes reph, composes ো/ৌ, and repositions vowel signs.
  • Is validated by an automated test suite of known input/output pairs, so corrections lock in permanently.

We recommend a quick proofread of rare ligatures after converting important documents. To learn the background, read Bijoy vs Unicode.

Privacy by design

The converter runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your text is never uploaded to a server, logged, or stored. See our Privacy Policy for details.
